Sunday 5th June - A boat trip to Tresco

We woke up to a slightly overcast sky, which was a bit of a disappointment after yesterdays glorious weather. After a good breakfast courtesy of Chris & Sheila, DJ Cabs arrived with Alan & Pat and we all headed off to the harbour to catch a boat to Tresco.

Our timing was excellent and we arrived just in time to purchase the tickets, £12 - no concessions (because pensioners cause more problems than the young 'uns), so we made our way down the steps to the 'Seahorse' boat and headed off to Tresco.

It was not a long crossing and the sun was coming out by the time we got to New Grimsby, Tresco.

There was not a great deal to New Grimsby, although it was very pleasant. We were too early for the pub, but we found the map and decided to head over to Old Grimsby.

Then it was off on the road to Dolphin Town, although to be fair 'town' is pushing it a bit as it is only a couple of cottages.

By now it was quite hot and we were quite thirsty, so we had a well deserved drink at the Island Hotel, and another place with incredible views.

It was then quite a hilly walk from Old Grimsby round to the Estate Offices where the Post Office / Shop and Bike Hire are based and where we planned to have our lunch.

More views of Tresco

After lunch a picnic lunch on the benches outside of the Estate Offices, we headed off on the coast road towards Tresco Abbey Gardens, and along the way were treated to more great views.

This took us round to nearly 4 PM and due to the tides we were to get the boat back from the North of the island at Carn Near Quay. There was a big queue and we did not get on to the Seahorse as it was full, but the Dolphin was just behind it and that went back emptier and consequently it was far more comfortable.

St Marys Pier

The fairly reliable (reliably late) DJ cabs picked us up from the Pier and we went back to sort ourselves out before going out for a meal. We chose the Mermaid Pub for our meal and it was OK Pub-Grub, not brilliant but OK.

So, that was Sunday in Tresco.
